The new top model of BMW's range from 1960 was now equipped with a vibration damper at the crankshaft. This feature could be seen from outside at the bulge on the steering-cover.
In addition, the R 69 S was distinguished from its predecessors by a larger air filter box and a much higher speed, what you didn't expect by taking a look at it. Thus they were able to keep up with the fastest English sport bikes. Not only in Germany this BWM was sold very well. Ox-eye indicators were available as an accessory ex works.
